What is it?
Vaginal discharge is fluid that comes out of the vagina — usually white or black.
Higher vaginal discharge may be due to changes in the normal menstrual cycle, genital inflammation or (rare) cancer.

What is a vaginal discharge?
Vaginal discharge is fluid that comes out of the vagina — usually white or red. Most women have vaginal discharge. Many women are given discharge every day, while other women only rarely receive a discharge. If the discharge changes color, tastes slightly or gets heavier, you may have an issue like an infection.

Is vaginal discharge always normal?
The amount and consistency of vaginal discharge in a woman's menstrual cycle changes at various points. Increased vaginal discharge may be caused by changes in the normal menstrual cycle, vaginal infection, or (rare) cancer. If a woman has more than her usual amount of vaginal discharge, she might need to see her health care provider.

If a woman has discharge and scratching or pain near the anus, she may have vaginitis. Vaginitis happens when the anus becomes swollen or inflamed.

 Signs of vaginitis include:
Increased volume or frequency of discharge
A strong vaginal odor
Green, yellow, or gray color to the discharge
Vaginal itching
Vaginal pain
Redness around the opening of the vagina

Unusual vaginal discharge may also be a sign of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), a woman's reproductive organ infection often triggered by some sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
When a woman has discharge plus scratching or burning near the vagina, she may have vaginitis.

What causes vaginitis?
Vaginitis may be caused by soaps, detergents, or additives in creams, bubble baths, oils, sprays, or clothes that affect the region around the vagina. These may modify the pH — or acidity — of the vagina, creating an overgrowth of small amounts of yeast and bacteria that naturally occur in the vagina. Such forms of infection are referred to as yeast infection and bacterial vaginosis.

Vaginitis can also be due to an infection. In some instances, the illness is triggered by sexually transmitted germs. Gonorrhea, chlamydia, Hepatitis, and trichomoniasis are genital discharge-causing STDs.

Douching is not advised as it could increase the risk of vaginal and PID infections.
If you have a vaginal discharge improvement, your healthcare provider may do tests to help you figure out the problem.

Possible tests may include:
Pelvic exam: The health care provider checks at the abdomen and cervix (the genital portion at the tip of the womb) and pushes the uterus and ovaries to the heart check for abnormalities in the tissue and organs.

PH test: The acid content of the discharge is tested by the health care professional because pathogens can induce adjustments in the vagina's pH—or acidity.

Wet mount: A sample of discharge is analyzed under a microscope to test for an infection with yeast, bacteria, or trichomonas that may cause the discharge.

STD examination: A drop of the discharge is obtained from the vagina or cervix and sent to the hospital for the diagnosis of gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomonas (STD) ) or Or other species which may induce discharge from the vagina.
